Detailed description
The Jinshan Primitive Forest perfectly preserves a subtropical mid-mountain moist evergreen broadleaf forest ecosystem, making it the most quintessential area showcasing the pristine beauty of the Ailao Mountain’s ancient forests. Towering ancient trees, shaped like coiled dragons and serpents, stretch skyward, their canopies forming a dense, shadowy canopy above. Lush green moss clings to the trunks, while cascading streams and soaring waterfalls dot the rugged peaks and valleys. Dense, vine-laden shrubs weave through the undergrowth, and vibrant mosses and ferns blanket the rocky cliffs and mountain slopes—every element exuding the untamed allure of a primeval wilderness. This region is perpetually shrouded in mist, with an average of 260 foggy days per year. Each morning, advection fog lingers for over eight hours, creating a mesmerizing spectacle of flowing clouds and mist that transforms the forest into a living, otherworldly landscape—almost like stepping into the real-life version of "The Wizard of Oz." Meanwhile, the Jinshan Primitive Forest sits within a critical migratory corridor for birds along the Ailao Mountains. The Jinshanyakou Migratory Bird Banding Station has been selected as one of the first pilot sites for the nationwide initiative to establish standardized bird banding stations across China.
